• About

hurlingstats.com is a web site devoted purely to statistics about the game of hurling. It aims to provide a comprehensive and accurate set of facts and figures about hurling matches, hurling teams, hurling scores and hurlers.

Where do all the facts and figures come from?
The primary source of information for hurlingstats.com is the hurling match reports found in the Irish Times, Irish Independent and Irish Examiner newspapers. Other sources include GAA websites, match programmes and other hurling publications. Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the statistics. If you spot any mistakes, please get in touch; you can e-mail me at stats@hurlingstats.com.

Where are the statistics for pre 2003 matches?
As of now hurlingstats.com contains statistics for the the All-Ireland senior championship from 2003 onwards.  As times goes by I plan to add previous years’ matches to the database. This takes time. A lot of time. Please be patient.

I’ve spotted a mistake - how do I report it?
If you spot an error or omission in any of the statistics or have any comments about the site, please e-mail me at stats@hurlingstats.com. I will do my best to reply in a timely manner.

Hurlingstats, I don’t know who you are but my hat is off to you - God bless the work. On your rant on score-recording by us, the journos, it’s a fact that (as noted) due to the speed of the game, the frequency of scores, we occasionally miss a scorer, and being so far from the action doesn’t help. When the game is on tv, and when we have a monitor, and when that monitor actually has the game, we can check, but very often that isn’t the case. Nightmare, at times; often those of us in an immediate vicinity will do a quick cross-check, but then it’s off down to do postgame interviews, then sit down and start writing, the sweat streaming down the crack of your arse as you try to ignore the looming deadlines (and it’s not always one - different pages can have different deadlines).
This is something the GAA itself should now take in hand; if there’s a person doing the stats for GAA.ie (and I’ve never met him/her), that person should coordinate with the GAA journos at the game before posting anything, that way we’d all be on the same hymn-sheet.
Anyway, thanks for your efforts, much appreciated.
